ART REPUBLIK 11: Summer Slam
The eleventh issue of ART REPUBLIK brings to the ring a hot line-up of artists that fiercely challenge the summer heat.
ART REPUBLIK has a brand new issue out on the news stands and boy are we excited. The new issue called ART REPUBLIK’s ‘Summer Slam’ provides us with a wonderful lineup of artists across multiple disciplines. The artists, who are each masters in their own domains, talk to us about their passion, and work.
“When it comes to fashion and art, Japanese label Undercover’s Jun Takahashi raises the bar to widely respectable heights; Belgian artist Michaël Borremans is a painter whose works are so unsettling you can’t help but be wholly consumed by them; video maestro Ho Tzu Nyen is the first Singapore artist to make it to the Unlimited section of Art Basel, Basel, with his video installation, ‘The Nameless’” says Marc Wong, Managing Editor of ART REPUBLIK. He added that “Singapore filmmaker Boo Junfeng speaks out about twice making it to Cannes with his second feature film, ‘Apprentice’; the performances of Sri Astari Rasjid have left craters in the Indonesian art scene for generations to come; Indonesian sculpture Wiyoga Muhardanto tells it like it is in his candidly honest works; and lastly, we take a second look the sublime yet subtle photographs of post-2001 Erwin Olaf.”
This quarter also turns the spotlight towards Indonesia with two important announcements. First, we have the inception of Art Stage Jakarta. Taking place from 5 to 7 August 2016, the inaugural edition of Art Stage Jakarta 2016 will focus on art from Indonesian, and is poised to reinforce Art Stage Singapore’s success and recognition as Southeast Asia’s international flagship contemporary art fair. Second, ART REPUBLIK is expanding with a new Indonesian edition (in Bahasa Indonesia).
