Travelling in style is never easy and when you need to jet off around the world, knowing which airline provides you with the best service is key. For 2017, Travel + Leisure has announced its list of the world’s best airlines and the top of the class is none other than Singapore Airlines. Of the 10 airlines listed by the publication, six hail from Asia. Surprisingly, the North American carriers were absent from the list.

Having been the top of the list for 22 years, Singapore Airlines is not a surprising choice for most travellers. According to readers of the travel publication, the national carrier of Singapore boasts a premium-economy cabin that is on par with the business-class cabins on lesser carriers. Following closely on the heels of Singapore Airlines, are Emirates and Qatar Airways who are thought to be the flag bearers of the airline industry.

Showing the world how customer service is done, the two airlines earned their spots by finding a workaround to the recent travel ban that plagued many travellers who were bound for the US. While passengers originating from the Middle East to the US have been banned from carrying electronic devices on board their flights for the last few months, the workaround by the two airlines has certainly helped them retain their ranking.

Fourth on the list is Cathay Pacific that has now announced more routes from Hong Kong to San Francisco and Boston. Its premium economy option was a hit with passengers who found that the discrete section it was located in was a nice surprise. The privacy is complemented by the good food and wonderful service provided by the airlines. Here are the top 10 international airlines for 2017, as announced by Travel + Leisure:

  1. Singapore Airlines
  2. Emirates
  3. Qatar Airways
  4. Cathay Pacific Airways
  5. Japan Airlines
  6. Virgin Atlantic
  7. Air New Zealand
  8. Korean Air
  9. All Nippon Airways
  10. Eva Air
