At a loss when trying to find new restaurants to try? We’ve had guidance from Michelin for the little island of Singapore, and now we have 50 more selections for the US, courtesy of North American magazine Bon Appetit. This year’s Best New Restaurant award sees 50 nominees in the shortlist, ranging from a food truck in Charleston to a French-Mexican brunch hangout in LA. Fans of Southeast Asian fare would be pleased to know that a French-Vietnamese restaurant serving laksa and kaya toast (yes!) has made it into the shortlist as well; the eatery goes by the name of Cassia.

“We love restaurants that are driven by passionate people with distinct points of view,” said the magazine’s deputy editor Andrew Knowlton. “These places aren’t cookie-cutter. They’re absolutely authentic to the cities where they’re based. We want to recognize restaurants that showcase hard work, genuine hospitality, and delicious food.”

Winners will be announced on August 16 in Bon Appetit’s September issue. If you’re already planning a food trip, however, a full list of nominees can be found on Bon Appetit’s website.
