Art Republik is proud to be an official media partner of ART STAGE Singapore once again, with the 2018 edition of the fair marking the 4th consecutive year of our collaboration.

ART STAGE Singapore, the art fair that introduced Yayoi Kusama to Singapore shores in 2014, is the flagship show which anticipates and represents the interests of Asian art in the global arena, this year featuring the Thai Art Scene and highlighting diverse interdisciplinary contemporary art practices.

Acknowledging the rapid changes in the art market, this year’s edition of the annual fair pays tribute to the new realities of the art market; going beyond classical gallery presentation by expanding the field to collectors, artists and other creative industries.

Highlights of this year’s fair include: a collaboration with The Tiroche DeLeon Collection; an exclusive showcase by Honorary Invited Artist, Fernando Botero; and a special selling exhibition of the works on paper of the late American artist Alexander Calder.

Conceptualised by collector and founder Serge Tiroche, The Tiroche DeLeon Collection is a private collection and art fund featuring Asian contemporary works from artists including Singaporeans Donna Ong and Ruben Pang, Indonesians Agus Suwage and J. Ariadhitya Pramuhendra, Thai Manit Sriwanichpoom, Filipino Geraldine Javier and Winner Jumalon, and Chinese Chen Fei and Zeng Fanzhi. Several of the top works in the collection have been acquired between 2011 to 2016 at previous editions of ART STAGE Singapore and are now being re-exhibited in the context of a collection.

Fernando Botero’s consistently recognisable style which explores volume and colour is not unfamiliar to Singapore audiences, having been exhibited in the 2015 edition of the fair and his iconic Bird sculpture being a landmark of the UOB plaza. ART STAGE Singapore 2018 has specially invited Botero as the fair’s first Honorary Invited Artist with a dedicated exhibition of his works, and also welcomes Botero’s son to give a talk about the life and art of Fernando Botero himself.

Alexander Calder, ‘Kwai’, 1974, Gouache on paper, 109.9 × 74.9cm. Image courtesy ART STAGE Singapore.

Presented by the Omer Tiroche Gallery, London, late American artist, there will be a special showcase featuring Alexander Calder at the fair for the first time in Singapore. Widely known and acclaimed for his delicately balanced systems of discs and wires that are set to motion by air, otherwise known as ‘mobiles’, Calder’s brightly coloured gouache on paper works were constant companions for these sculptures.

The highly anticipated art fair boasts a wide collection of Southeast Asian Masterpieces, as well as hosting 97 galleries from 38 cities across the world.
